Books on Typography
When Mac McGrew moved to a smaller apartment in 2005, he had to dispose of a lot of saved material from his career, including his library of well over 500 rare typographic books. He had planned to donate the collection elsewhere, but because of duplicates that they have now, he took their recommendation and donated the books to The Museum of Printing in North Andover, Massachusetts, near Boston. This is a major collection, listed in Annenberg’s Type Foundries of America and Their Catalogs. One ninety-degree weekend, Jon, Lucinda, Larry, and Gardner LePoer, then the Executive Director of The Museum of Printing, packed and loaded those books into a truck for transport to their new home. These books are part of the material that was used to research details for his book, American Metal Typefaces of the Twentieth Century. It was important to keep these books together as a collection, rather than selling them off individually. This collection is now available to others for their own research work. |
